⭐️ 📝 [Op/Ed] Jar Jar Binks: silly to some, inspiring to others.

Since his first appearance, Jar Jar Binks has been a character with many different receptions. To some, he is silly, to others, a Sith. Some hate this character and others love him.

What many agree upon is that he is a very memorable character who has made a deep impact upon the Star Wars franchise and its fans. In this post, I shall explain why I feel like he is a good character and also, an important one.

Jar Jar Binks: A Silly Inspiration

While some may say that Jar Jar is silly and undeserving of a place in the Star Wars universe, due to his goofy and silly nature, I feel strongly against those opinions. He isn't just comedic relief.

This is a character that I feel many fans can relate to. Not every person is the same. If you look at it another way, Jar Jar is helping this franchise show people that they have meaning.

People who aren't necessarily agile, or brave, people who struggle in life and unintentionally annoy people. Obi-Wan even implies that he believes Jar Jar to be a, "... pathetic lifeform." However, Jar Jar shows that he is willing to take a stand and risk his life for the greater good.

He may be scared, at times, he may be clumsy and goofy, but there are people like that and perhaps, Jar Jar helps them feel like they are as important as others who are more acrobatic, or courageous.

Jar Jar shows people that they aren't limited by fear, or clumsiness. He shows them that they can overcome their fears, that they can make a difference... and that's a beautiful thing.

Whether it was the intent of the character, or not, I feel like he has become such a character of meaning for many out there. That is why I felt it necessary to write this and to help others see a different side of the character.

He's more important and more inspiring than some may realize. He has a good heart. He means well. He cares about his friends. Jar Jar has brought a lot of joy to Star Wars fans and I'm hoping that he receives more stories in the future to help fans come to respect him even more.

^^The Hobbit is for kids. Harry Potter is for kids. But that doesn’t stop adults from liking them. Just because something is “for kids” doesn’t make it bad for older people to like them.

^^^ Couldn't help but notice you follow Power Rangers and Harry Potter there, shouty kids dude. I would personally argue that Taylor Swift isn't exactly for grown up music tastes either.

ANH was a U rating when it came out (despite the crispy Lars).

TPM was a PG. I doubt th Ewoks were aimed at middle-aged sophisticates.

So what point are you trying to make?

I found Jar Jar annoying when I saw the PT at the cinema but my kids have shown me much to like about him.

Have to give it to Jar Jar...the emergency powers he gave to Palps created the Original Trilogy story that I grew up on...thanks Jar Jar, you are my hero...

If you read more about him, that mistake haunted him. He basically became a clown and lived a sort of depressing life after that.

Yes I read that in those aftermath books..I think like all things Lucas did it was done with a purpose and it’s always goes deeper within the story than it appears...with that being said he was not a character I was super stoked about ,as I was in my 20s when PM came out, but if “ANY” character brings you deeper into the SW universe because you enjoyed the character then I think that character is much more important than most people think...

For example, him seeming like a goofy character to many people, yet his story helped shape the three prequel films. You've got a point there.

Jar Jar’s character (his purpose in the films) isn’t what people did not like. It was the execution of the character on screen.

Chewbacca, a big furry dog that made noises, could easily have not worked on screen. But Lucas nailed it with him. To many, with Jar Jar, although the purpose was always there, people thought that Lucas just didn’t quite “nail it” with him on screen.

A lot of that was because there was A LOT of expectation for that film in 1999. But, it tended to fade with the other films, especially when ROTS was released.

I know that many people didn't like his portrayal. My post was to try to get people to think about the people that do enjoy the portrayal and gain from it, a sense of belonging and hope, that even if they are so clumsy and goofy, they can still be heroic and courageous.

It is just my opinion, but there are so many different Star Wars fans out there, that some will hate his portrayal and others will love it.
