This piece will hopefully be an inspiration to some in regards to learning to be open to other opinions. Taking things to heart can often cause for stress or arguments that I'm sure people could live without. I'm sure that many could use a little more hope and a little less stress.
It is a wonderful thing to share your thoughts, ideas and theories about Star Wars, but often times I will see people come to a disagreement about the franchise. While it is good to have constructive discussion, conflicting opinions can lead to some heated arguments.
I'm here to give you some advice in the hopes that it will help you learn to see another point of view about the various topics and discussions within the Star Wars community.
Just because someone says something, it doesn't make it a fact. It's okay for someone to have a different opinion that disagrees with yours, so long as it isn't hurting anyone.
Learn to see it from another angle. Perhaps it could be more interesting to think of an idea from another direction. For example, many will argue that Jar Jar Binks was a bad character. Many will argue that he was a good character, but there are many that have come to the theory that he was secretly a Sith. Even if there is no evidence to support that theory, it's another angle that has become a joke and made many fans share in the humor of a different point of view.
Learn to ignore if respect someone who refuses to agree with you. If someone starts to upset you with their disagreements, just say that you respect their opinion, but you don't agree. We're all Star Wars fans. Civility and decency go a long way to encouraging others to be civil and decent in their own lives. Listen to an opinion. Consider it. If you still don't agree, be polite and courteous when your response is pondered. Be kind.
Inquire as to the details of a conflicting opinion. Respectably ask for an explanation as to the person's way of thinking. Why they have come to the conclusion. It's okay to be curious as to why someone has disagreed with you. You may even be persuaded.
Just have fun. We're here to enjoy Star Wars, to learn more about it, to discuss it, to theorize about it and to share in the many pleasures from it. People here aren't out to upset you. They just want to have a conversation with you. If their opinion differs from yours, I'm sure that most mean no harm. It's okay to talk about it and to decide for yourself. You don't have to agree with them and they don't have to agree with you.
I hope that these pieces of advice help. It's just what I think about it. My opinion. What I say here isn't the way you have to go about it, but I do encourage civility and courteous intellectual output when it comes to discussing something.
Even if loquacious about something that you disagree with, you can still be kind to a person with an opinion that differs from you. Star Wars teaches many such lessons. About hope. About being better than yourself. About overcoming. I encourage you to not take things to heart so much if they bring you constant stress. Learn to let go.
I wish you a great day and many wonderful conversations and ideas ahead. Take care.
