With Wookieepedia’s Discussions forum successfully handling the release of The Mandalorian’s second season, we reviewed how we approach spoilers in general here, as well as some other ways we can consolidate and strengthen discussions.
We tried a whole new spoiler strategy this year, and it was a success that produced some of the most extensive and enriching discussions on the forum, so that’s how we’ll be doing it from now on.
Here’s the new piece of the spoiler protocol in full. The basic protocol is still in effect.
For every new content or press release, there will only be one official spoiler-related thread, which should include a [SPOILERS] tag in the title. Other spoiler posts will be locked and redirected to the official one.
For the spoiler thread, a review of the story must be included to start the discussion off and identify it as the spoiler thread.
Similarly, one official spoiler-free poll is allowed to ask users to rate the new content. It must include [NO SPOILERS] in its title or face deletion. Other polls aside from the official one will also be deleted.
A link to the Official Thread for the episode should be placed in the comments of the polls to direct the discussion of spoilers there.
The first posts of either type to be made will be made the official threads—first posted, first featured.
That’s pretty much it. Spoiler threads can be found in our ThreadHub index, where they will be added in the future.
The second part of this rule expansion is about repeating posts. The old rule was that posts of the same topic couldn’t be posted within two days of each other—a week if they were made by the same user.
Now the rule is cleaner: users can’t repeat posts that have been seen in the last week on the feed.
This comes in the wake of multiple new projects that have made finding older posts as easy as ever. Again, there’s the ThreadHub—our forum map.
Second, there’s the ability to search for Discussions posts by title. Anyone who wants to make a new post can first search for existing ones to make sure they’re actually making something new.
We have a search guide thread to help with that function too.
TL;DR: spoiler discussions are now limited to official threads only, and posts can't be repeated within a week of each other.
Together these new additions to the guidelines will help streamline and centralize Discussions, clearing the way for more unique and insightful conversations to come. May the Force be with you!
