As of December 18, 2020, it'll have been one year since the airing of Star Wars: The Mandalorian – "Chapter 7: The Reckoning". This episode feature a great amount of events including twists, turns and the first appearance of Gideon.
Looking back upon this episode, we get to see how far the characters have come. This is the episode that we saw various characters from the season align themselves with Mando and take a stand to help him.
The character growth from the first episode to this one was fantastic to see. Mando went from bounty hunter to guardian within a few episodes and risked his life on multiple occasions to protect the Child.
Greef Karga, who had been invested in his own business saw the good in the Child, who had healed and saved him, convincing him to become an ally. It was a great journey for these characters to have been business associates who became enemies and then allies.
Even Carasynthia Dune, who had once fought Mando, journeyed with him on his quest to Nevarro. IG-11 also went from being a droid programmed to kill, an attempted hunter of the Child, to attempting to become his protector.
The different chapters of the season had been building to something fantastic, with encounters throughout the season coming back for the ending. It had been hinted at in promotional material for the show, but the way they executed it was fantastic.
With the arrival of Gideon, we also saw the Client killed, ending his story and revealing the true antagonist of the season. The man behind the hunt for the Child. This episode was a great way to heighten the stakes for the Season 1 finale and his chilling and calm demeanor proved a challenge Mando and his allies.
This episode also featured the death of Kuiil, a highly quoted and beloved character. He perished in a tragic way, attempting to bring the child to the Razor Crest. Earlier in the season, he had rejected to join Mando's crew, but ended up giving his life to save another.
Ending on a cliffhanger, this episode closed with uncertainty, with the Child falling into enemy hands. The next episode and what happened in it, in my opinion, was even more intense and entertaining than this one.
These characters and their journeys show the heart of the show. The willingness to put themselves out there for the good of a cause and to protect the Child. It prepared us for a fantastic season finale and has become even better over time.
With the Season 2 finale being only hours a way, I felt that a post such as this would be a great way to prepare. Thank you for your time.
