I agreed with this a lot. We are fans, we shouldn't be divided like the Death Watch. We should appreciate what people's favourites are. I myself enjoyed Episode 2.

Disagreeing is good.

Imagine if we all had the same opinions, the same likes and dislikes. We wouldn’t get anywhere. It would turn into an echo chamber, thoughts and words repeated over and over with nothing gained, nothing learned.

A large part of Discussions is disagreeing. We like to debate. We present our views and challenge others’. That’s good. That’s great, in fact.

The key is, as you said, being polite.

There is a difference between arguing and debating: those who debate seek to learn something, to test their views and help strengthen others’. Those who argue seek to impose their views on others, stir up trouble, get people angry.

So continue to disagree. But do it right. Don’t take it personally. Be polite. Stay calm. Stay curious. Listen. Acknowledge. Accept. Think. Most importantly, remember why we’re here. We all love Star Wars, and want to share that love with likeminded people.

Don’t get caught up in your anger; we all know where that leads.

Exactly. Civility goes a long way. I'll actually have respect for someone who can disagree with me and show points as to why. We can respect another's opinion and still have our own. Well said.

This post is straight facts. I really think we should all learn to be more respectful toward others opinions. I can definitely learn from this post because sometimes I get so caught up in proving other people wrong when discussing vs battles that I forget that we’re all here to share our love for Star Wars. You're very welcome. In versus polls, a lot of the time, either option can win. It depends on the circumstances. We've seen characters who are strong be bested. Anakin Skywalker by Dooku and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even as Darth Vader, he's been challenged, but he often wins his encounters.

That's the beauty of polite disagreement. The possibilities of Star Wars are so vast that almost any two characters in a poll could win said fight. The discussion can be really fun with civility and politeness.

Well written, Roger. This post really makes you think about Star Wars and its fanbase. It's good to disagree with other's opinions, as your thoughts compared can lead to open discussions that are civil and polite; what should not happen though is criticising others for their thoughts and opinions, and proving your's are better for whatever reason.
