David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Leave Star Wars

It has been announced that the show-runners of Game of Thrones have left their Star Wars project, the first film of which was meant to release in 2022. They cited their busy schedule and involvement with Netflix projects as their reason for exiting.

I’m disappointed, but at least there are more Star Wars stories to look forward to in the meantime. These guys had great promise, and I can imagine that many of us thought they would be perfect for Old Republic era content.

However, Kathleen Kennedy stated that the two would be welcome back if ever their schedule was to clear up. What are your thoughts?

I'm interested in what they were planning to do, but I wouldn't say I was overly excited for their trilogy. It's well known the two have a lot of controversy due to GoT season 8.

I don’t care for Marvel. Or DC for that matter. The only “superhero” movies worth anything are character studies or independent projects like Joker.

Meh. Pretty indifferent about this news honestly.

Never watched GOT, so I can’t and won’t comment on how I feel about these guys.

I guess the bad part is we get less Star Wars now

The good news is (for me at least) maybe we’ll get RJ’s trilogy quicker now.

I totally get people who haven’t watched GoT not caring about this news at all, I feel like there is almost perfect correlation between people’s opinions of the end of that show and people’s opinions of these two creators.

Now that we apparently know what their films would have been about, I feel a little more disappointed that such a story won’t come to us; at the same time, I think the origin of the Jedi is something that should take more time to think about (and better storytellers).

I do feel more excited about whatever story Rian Johnson intends to tell, though.

Thank the force this didn’t happen the last thing I want is the origin of the Jedi. I know it was revealed in legends but I have always thought the Jedi origins should be one of the few things to not be told. In the same Vain of not wanting to see Yoda before he was grand master,

I definitely wouldn’t have trusted Benioff and Weiss to tell such an important story. I’m hopeful someone who’s better at storytelling will get to do that, maybe that’s why Kevin Feige has entered the picture.
