It's a contradiction, nevertheless. It was retconned out of continuity, which is fine. Though it's not being spoken about, very much, compared to some of the contradictions in Legends.

Has Legends done this same thing, it would've been scrutinised.

I'll say that any scene in a novel that wasn't in the movie but doesn't contradict anything in the movie is canon. So Poe meeting Rey doing the force awakens isn't canon, but what Poe did to get off Jakku is.

Similarly, that adaptation had contradictions.

It’s a no win situation really.

They delay a movie novel and get hammered for not releasing at the same time.

They release a novel at the time of the movie and spoilers get released but also, to release at the same time it’s based on the script which in editing may have changed.

I remember Pablo once tweeting about how the crawl for TFA was changed like a day before the premiere and LFL SG were unaware until the premiere.

It’s just one of those things. I personally don’t see it as the same as legends continuity issues.
