1985: Sheldon's maternal grandfather, Pop-Pop, dies.
December 2, 1985: Penny is born
December 25, 1985: Sheldon asked Santa to bring back Pop-Pop, but it didn't happen and this soured Sheldon so much that he disliked Christmas altogether.
